John F. Kennedy

John F. Kennedy International Airport had its first commercial flight on July 1, 1948. JFK was originally known as Ildewild Airport after the golf course it was built on. However, the name of the airport would change two more times before finally becoming John F. Kennedy International Airport in late December of 1964, one month after the assassination of President Kennedy. Serving nearly 47 million passengers a year, JFK is the 18th busiest airport in terms of passenger traffic. It is the busiest international air passenger gateway to the United States and is the most major international gateway for American Airlines.
