We're glad you've chosen to become a part of the Virtual American Airlines family. Before you can join, you must undertand and agree to our rules and regulations. We have listed a few important ones below. If you'd like to see our Pilot Operating Handbook for a full list of all our rules and regulations (recommended), click here. We also suggest you take a look at our privacy policy.
Section 2 - Joining
2.1 – Age
All applicants joining VAA must be at least thirteen (13) years of age following COPPA guidelines. VAA reserves the right to deny anyone’s application due to falsification of age.
2.2 – Name
When filling out the application, you must use your full legal name.
2.3 – Transfer Hours
VAA will allow a pilot to transfer up to a total of seventy-five (75) virtual airline hours provided that they are verifiable. VATSIM alone hours will not be accepted. Your transfer hours must be completed by a virtual airline. You must provide a verifiable link that includes at least the following: Pilot Name, Pilot ID, total hours. The highest rank a new pilot can come into VAA as is a Captain 4th Class. To have the rank of Captain 3rd Class, you will have to acquire seventy-five (75) more hours with VAA.
2.4 - Probationary Period
Pilots joining VAA with no transfer hours will be placed on what is called a Probationary Period. This period lasts until the pilot has acquired his/her first five (5) hours of flight time. This period has the same concept as a job in the real world, just less extensive. In this period, if you are found to falsify anything, have issues with any staff members or peer pilots, or anything relating to such, you will be permanently removed from the VAA roster. This period has one main purpose. That purpose is to ensure that all pilots are here for a serious, professional, realistic, and at times, fun environment. We try to simulate the real-world aviation system as much as possible and this is just one of those ways.
2.5 - First Flight
Here at VAA, we require you to have filed your first PIREP within seven (7) days of your application. If you cannot fulfill this requirement, please contact your hub manager immediately.
2.6 - Email
As a pilot at VAA, you are expected to maintain an active and valid email. If you are found to have a falsified email, your application will be subjected to termination without notice. If your email changes after hired, you must change your email as early as possible under “Edit Profile” on the Main Navigation.
Please make sure to add: applications@virtualamerican.org to your contacts list to ensure on-time email delivery.
